Write a layer plan before comparing sizes

State whether the sweater would be worn alone, over a thin shirt, over a thicker layer, or under outerwear. Appearance does not establish fiber composition, knitting method, lining, warmth, weight, breathability, stretch behavior, shrink history, colorfastness, or care requirements. Keep each as unknown until the exact listing supplies suitable documentation. A care label image can preserve displayed wording, but it does not answer present condition or whether prior care followed that wording.

Match measurement state and endpoints

Define whether the garment is laid naturally, smoothed without tension, or measured in another disclosed state. Request chest width at a stated location, body length from a named point, shoulder treatment, sleeve path, upper sleeve or armhole context where needed, cuff opening, hem width, and closure state for an opening front. Show units and endpoints.

Do not request stretched measurements unless the method is safe and necessary; an improvised tension test can damage an item and still fail to predict recovery or fit. Compare candidate and reference values side by side, note measurement uncertainty, and reject false precision. Remote dimensions can identify clear conflicts but cannot promise drape, movement, pressure, or comfort.

Build a surface and structure grid

The final comparison should weigh evidence quality and remedy, not just the lowest displayed price.

Run a documented arrival check

Photograph the parcel and exact garment upon opening without exposing personal identifiers. Verify included pieces, overall shape, measurements, listed markings, surface grid, repairs, alterations, and disclosed flaws. Compare against the frozen record while the inspection clock is visible in the plan.

Classify the outcome as keep, return, or escalate for a policy-compatible question. Do not treat silence from a seller as confirmation. A sweater candidate is not resolved because it looks acceptable in one photograph; it is resolved when layer requirements, exact-item evidence, cost, and written remedy support the same decision.
